UMass Memorial Medical Center President Patrick Muldoon recently sat down with the Worcester Business Journal. Mr. Muldoon spoke very candidly about his first year as president, the importance of a team approach to patient care, and the impact of health reform.

Richard Sacra, MD, is part of a Worcester panel focused on the Ebola virus. City leaders say there is a lot of confusion surrounding the virus and their main goal is to shed  some light on many of the misconceptions.

Steven Hatch, MD, recently returned from Liberia in West Africa where he was a part of an international effort to help the people there confront the Ebola virus. He says that although he will need time to process and put into perspective all of the experiences from his five-week stay, at the end of the day it was all about taking care of patients.

UMass Memorial Health Care is among 10 organizations benefiting from $1.3 million in grants under a new program administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation. The funds will support Massachusetts organizations that treat people who have behavioral health problems and other medical issues.

The UMass Memorial Medical Center roster of physicians just grew by a handful. The Emergency Medicine Department on the University and Memorial campuses recently added Drs. Slutzman, Carey, Kotkowski and Costigan.

UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center has been the beneficiary of goodwill from many circles this holiday season. Recently the Chick-fil-A mascot and other members of the restaurant chain were on campus to make a special donation.

Less than two and a half hours into the new year Worcester had its first baby of the year. Jonathan David Spencer was born at 2:09 a.m. at UMass Memorial Medical Center weighing in at 6 lbs. and 13.5 oz.

UMass Memorial Medical Center is working collaboratively with Wachusett Mountain in promoting safety while on the slopes. Those efforts include a short video detailing skiers and snowboarders code of responsibility.
