Continuous learning and development are at the forefront of everything we do at UMass Memorial Health. This is why we offer multiple leadership development and innovation programs in which our caregivers can participate.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Other Certifications
Various certificate courses are offered through UMass Memorial's partnership with the UMass Chan Medical School Office of Continuing Medical Education (OCME).
Continuing Medical Education (CME)
As an academic medical center with close ties to UMass Chan Medical School, there are numerous opportunities to obtain free CME credits at UMass Memorial. Some recurring programs for our providers include Shwartz rounds, trauma bedside rounds, combined critical care anesthesia lecture series, and CC APP Lecture series, which follow a normal cadence. Many of these opportunities have a virtual option so those who are not working the day of a lecture series can attend remotely and still receive credit for their participation.
Lean Training
Lean refers to a process improvement methodology that focuses on continuous improvement. It aims to reduce waste in processes in order to drive improvement on various levels. There are four belt levels: White, Yellow, Green, and Black Belt, each increasing in terms of scope.
Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Mentorship and Preceptorship
As the community of APPs continues to grow and mature at UMass Memorial Health, we have multiple programs aimed at initial and continued support, advancement, and education. These include programs like new-hire orientation, evidence-based clinical education, post-graduate fellowship opportunities, and leadership training and development. We also offer connections for APP students who need clinical placement experiences during their post-graduate program.
Quality Scholars Program
The Quality Scholars Program is a faculty development program for quality improvement (QI) leadership and mentoring and is sponsored by the UMass Memorial Department of Quality and Patient Safety and Center for the Advancement of Primary Care. This certificate program is for UMass Chan Medical School faculty and UMass Memorial Health caregivers who want to develop proficiency in quality improvement project management and QI leadership in their practice areas.
Shadowing Opportunities
UMass Memorial Medical Center offers a volunteer/shadowing program for those interested in shadowing a clinical professional here at the Medical Center. Some advanced degree fields require shadowing as part of their application process. This is an opportunity for those not affiliated with UMass Memorial Health.
