Worcester parents differ on possible COVID-19 vaccine for kids under 12

WORCESTER – Caroline Theerman knows what she’s going to do if a COVID-19 vaccine is approved for children younger than 12.  

Tuesday, Theerman stood among a throng of parents and their children in the Flagg Street School playground after school let out for the day. As children ran about having fun - including Theerman’s two children who attend the school - Theerman said she’s happy about the prospects for a vaccine that her kids could take in the near future against COVID-19.

Nurse’s strike at Saint Vincent Hospital is creating a ‘crisis situation’ in Worcester, keeping as many as 100 beds offline

As new COVID-19 cases increased in Worcester for the 10th consecutive week, the head of UMass Memorial Health pleaded with the stakeholders involved in the nurse’s strike at Saint Vincent Hospital to find a resolution, referring to the available hospital beds in the city as a “crisis situation.”

Local doctors notice unusual spike in respiratory virus cases in children this summer

WORCESTER, Mass. - As health care providers worry about a rise in COVID-19 cases in children, local physicians are also raising the alarm about another virus. ​

Cases of  respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, are normally seen in the winter, but pediatricians at UMass Memorial Health said they've seen an unusual amount of cases this summer.

Small wonder: Robot at UMass Memorial performs minimally invasive cancer surgery

WORCESTER — When Dr. Mitchell Sokoloff was training as a urologist in the early 1990s, he recalled that the advice for surgical incisions was “the bigger the better.”

Fast forward to Tuesday, and his two incisions to remove a patient’s prostate totaled only about an inch and 2 millimeters, thanks to the latest advancement in laparoscopic surgery at UMass Memorial Medical Center: the Single-Port DaVinci robot.
