Today, more than 110,000 adults and children are on the national waiting list for a kidney or liver transplant. Tragically, because there’s such a shortage of donor organs, an average of 18 people die every day while they’re waiting.

What is a liver transplant?

A liver transplant is a surgery during which doctors remove your sick or injured liver and replace it with a healthy liver from a donor. Most often, the liver is from a deceased organ donor.

The smallest patients require the most specialized medical care. At UMass Memorial Medical Center, we take care of our pediatric patients with a highly skilled team of experts from our Children’s Medical Center in Worcester.
