Visiting Harrington

We ask that you remember our top priority is the patient’s treatment, comfort and safety. During hospitalization, our goal is to provide an environment that promotes healing and a positive experience for the patient and their visitors.

During Flu Season, we’re doing our part to help keep patients and visitors safe. 

• Do not visit if you have a severe cough, high fever, chills, have not had the Flu vaccine, or are experiencing other respiratory or cold symptoms. Instead, send a card or an email to your loved one. You can also contact our Gift Shop and have something sent directly up to their room!
• If you must visit, we ask that you utilize the sanitizing foaming stations throughout the hospital, as well as our masks, to protect our patients and community from infection.
• Be sensitive to the need for rest and quiet by keeping visits short.

As a visitor, you can help your loved one and play an important role in the patient’s healthcare experience and recovery.

To minimize the stress that accompanies hospitalization, you can help reassure and encourage the patient as well as offer comfort and security during your visit. You can also offer to assist in activities the patient can’t accomplish while in the hospital—mowing the lawn, collecting the mail, etc.

Visiting Hour Policies:

• Intensive Care (ICU) – Immediate family members or designees are encouraged to visit, and we will be flexible with offering you access up to 24 hours per day. Special circumstances may be considered upon request to the ICU nurse.
• Adult Psychiatric Unit (APU), Webster – Visitors are welcome daily from 6-7 PM. Additionally, visiting hours on weekends and holidays are 1-2 PM.
• Co-Occurring Disorders Unit (CDU), Webster – Daily, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. No one under 12 years of age may visit, unless clinically indicated.
• Medical/Surgical Units (2North & 3North) – General visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Less restrictive hours will be considered for special circumstances and needs. A support person or another designated by the patient will be allowed during the patient’s stay.
• Surgical Services – Patients may have a designated visitor before and after surgery; visitors can wait in any of the unit lounges. Parents of children 11 years and under may go into the operating room for induction of anesthesia; one support person may visit in the post-anesthesia care unit after the patient has stabilized.
• Emergency Department – Patients may have a support person and/or a family member present during their stay.

If you have special circumstances that do not follow our visiting hours, tell a nurse or unit manager so we can work to meet your needs.

The Harrington Gift Shop, located inside our main hospital campus lobby in Southbridge, offers our guests a unique shopping experience with a wonderful array of personal gifts for yourself or someone special.

About our Gift Shop

Our Gift Shop is run by dedicated volunteers. We specialize in offering unique gifts that are sure to brighten anyone’s day.

Whether you are buying for a patient inside our hospital, thinking about an upcoming birthday or graduation gift, or decorating your house for the holidays — we can offer it all. We’re a one-stop destination store with a selection that expands beyond the get well card!

Other high-end gifts inside our store include beautiful large watches, Alex & Ani bracelets, seasonal attire, home decor, Demdaco figurines, handbags and more.

We also sell magazines, candy, toiletries, stuffed animals and toys, non-latex balloons, stamps and greeting cards.

Proceeds from all purchases in the Gift Shop are used by the Auxiliary to provide equipment and programs that benefit the health and well-being of members of the communities served by Harrington HealthCare System.

Deliveries to Patients

The Gift Shop has a wide array of items that can be delivered, within the hospital only, including floral gifts. To order flower and gift deliveries to patients, call (508) 765-6479. Flowers and plants may not be allowed in all units — generally, flowers, plants and sometimes balloons are not allowed in any ICU units. Please contact the appropriate nursing station or the Gift Shop to confirm whether the patient has any restrictions.

We will provide advice you can trust and help you and your family with strategies for healthy living.

Our registered dieticians (RDs), who specialize in the science of medical nutrition therapy and are licensed by The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, provide a variety of nutrition counseling services for all ages.

In addition to the personalized care you will receive, our staff is up-to-date on the latest nutrition research and will give you reliable nutrition information based on science, not fads. They will also work with you to create a customized exercise plan.

Our RDs are also available to provide lunch and learn sessions for local business for fee-based services or to non-profit organizations. Contact us for more information!

Be sure to check with your insurance company to confirm the extent of your coverage. Mass Network Health is not an accepted insurance by Harrington and outpatient nutrition services will not be covered. Medicare A/B will cover medical nutrition therapy for Diabetes and renal management.

Dining Services at Harrington Café

You want a food service that’s convenient, tasty, and has healthy choices—and here at Harrington, our ServSafe-certified staff provides just that. Working with dietitians, we offer a full-service cafeteria with a variety of food items for patients, staff, and visitors.

We offer cafe food in both our Southbridge and Webster locations.

Striving to ensure satisfaction, we regularly conduct patient/customer surveys in the café, and we consistently receive excellent feedback.

For our patients, we offer room service, a hotel-like dining service. A representative from the Food & Nutrition Department will deliver a welcome packet to your room upon admission. This packet contains ordering information, information about the diet your doctor has prescribed, as well as your menu.

Room service meals are available from 6:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. daily so you can order your meals when you want them. Also, for a small fee, you can enjoy eating with company by ordering a guest meal through our room service program.

Members of the nutrition staff are available to work with you to provide what you’d like while adhering to your doctor’s prescribed diet. And we have dietitians on staff to answer your questions or concerns pertaining to your diet during your hospital stay.

Parking is free all day and every day at all Harrington campus locations!

Our main Southbridge facility at 100 South Street has designated patient and visitor parking areas. These are noted by yellow-lined spaces. They are located in the front and side lots closest to the main entrance, near our Emergency Department and around back near our Medical Arts building.

The campus also has ample handicapped parking and ramp accessibility.

Should you need further assistance getting a loved one out of or into a vehicle, please see an employee at our main registration desk or at our Emergency Room entrance and someone will assist you.

Our Webster campus also has ample patient parking in the front section of the building. Please note our Webster campus is now a one-way drive. Enter at the main sign at 340 Thompson Road and drive all the way around the building to exit.

Patient parking is found in the first and second left-hand turns once you enter campus. The first left will bring you to our Harrington Physician Services office. The second left will bring you closer to our main doors or enter through our laboratory. Handicapped parking is available.

There is also a right-hand turn as you enter the driveway into a smaller lot that can be utilized for patient overflow, and a second right-hand turn in front of the UMass pediatric office. The first row of parking spaces there is available for Harrington patients and visitors.

Harrington provides qualified medical interpreters to assist our non-English speaking or limited-English speaking patients and families.

In addition, through a relationship with Tele-Interpreters; we are able to provide interpreter services for more than 170 languages, including Polish, French, and Russian.

Sign Language

Harrington HealthCare offers approved nationally certified American Sign-Language (ASL) Interpreters upon request.

Advanced notice is required to schedule an appointment with our ASL interpreter. If for some reason, our primary interpreter is not available, we contact the Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and they can provide one to assist you or your family member; however, one week’s notice is required for this service.

We encourage the community to also utilize our local Southbridge Community Connections for interpreter services that may not relate to hospital-specific concerns.

Southbridge Community Connections offers a comprehensive bridge for community members, offering services to benefit overall health and well-being by providing the right tools and advocating on their behalf.

Located at 346 Main Street in Southbridge, the office can provide outreach, program coordination, translation services, faxing, and consultations for community needs.
