Dreading Flu Season? Try These 3 Immunity Boosting Tips for Your Kids

When you have children in school, there’s nothing worse than entering flu season. And, if you have more than one child, the dread is doubled (sometimes tripled) as you know how nasty those germs can be. If you’re not careful, soon your entire household will be sick.

Thankfully, there are ways you can help boost your family’s immunity naturally.

While the flu shot is the number one best thing you can do to help keep your family healthy, adding these three immunity boosters can be your secret weapon to making sure germs stay at your front door.

  1. Stay Active. Although the cold weather can oftentimes put a damper on your family’s exercise habits, especially if you enjoy walking, running, or playing sports outside, it’s important to make sure you all stay active. Consider taking short daily family walks, or even finding an indoor activity, such as swimming or rock climbing, to make sure you continue to get the activity you need to keep all of the immune systems in your family healthy.
  2. Eat Healthy. Flu season often accompanies the holiday season, which means there are more temptations than ever to eat loads of sweets or decadent meals. And while indulging now and then is fine, do your best to keep your family’s meals as healthy as possible, as this has proven time and time again to be important in keeping your immune systems functioning at their highest levels.
  3. Sleep More. The more rest you get the better able your body is to fight off germs. Take a cue from the short days and get in bed earlier than you do in the summer. An extra hour of sleep can do wonders for everyone’s immune system (and mood)!

While there is no “silver bullet” for making sure no one in your family gets sick during flu season, following these immune system boosting tips is a great way to reduce your chances.
