The Cancer Center at Harrington Receives $21,000 from Festival of Giving Trees

SOUTHBRIDGE, MA, October 4, 2022 – On August 22nd representatives from The Cancer Center at UMass Memorial Health – Harrington were presented with a $21,000 check from the 2021 Festival of (Giving) Trees.

The Festival is an annual event in Southbridge that features more than 100 uniquely decorated trees on display. Raffle tickets are sold and participants can enter to win one or more of the beautifully decorated trees.

“We are so honored to be given this money, which will help our patients and their families as they receive weekly and often daily cancer treatments,” said Tracy Glacken, Director of Operations for The Cancer Center. “The Festival of (Giving) Trees is such a wonderful event for our community to come together and celebrate the holidays, we are grateful for their generosity.”

Each year, many decorated trees are donated by local businesses, but anyone in the community is welcome to donate. Many trees are entered to honor a loved one who is currently battling cancer or has passed from the disease. UMass Memorial Health – Harrington has been participating in the event for many years, creating a larger display of gifts and prizes, typically totaling more than $3,000.

“We are so pleased to say that 2021 was our best year to date with a total of $63,000 donated to benefit local benefit a local hospital like UMass Memorial Health – Harrington,” said Brenda Lacaire, Festival of (Giving) Trees chairman and president. “We are always happy to present our check to The Cancer Center at UMass Memorial Health – Harrington. We are so fortunate to have this state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility right in our backyard.”

The mission of the Festival is to raise money to help the Silent Sprint Institute, the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and The Cancer Center at UMass Memorial Health – Harrington. Over the past 23 years, the Festival of (Giving) Trees has raised and donated over $794,000 to these beneficiaries.

The 2022 Festival of (Giving) Trees will be held December 1st through December 4th at LaSalle Reception Center, 444 Main Street in Southbridge. For more information, visit sparklingtrees.com.
