Janet Malser Trust Awards $12,500 to Harrington ED Campaign

WEBSTER, Mass. – June 17, 2013 – Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard received $12,500 from the Janet Malser Humanities Trust as a contribution toward Strengthening Our Future – the capital campaign to rebuild the Emergency Department at its Webster campus.

“We are grateful for the Janet Malser Trust and its generous gift toward our campaign,” said Pamela Zouranjian Connor, Administrator for Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard. “They continue to show great support and enthusiasm for this project, which is needed in the Webster area.”

The Trust has awarded a total of $37,500 to the campaign since 2012. In 2011, the Trust also gave money to Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard, which helped to fund the purchase of new stretchers and equipment.

Harrington officially launched its $8.8 million campaign to rebuild the Webster Emergency Department in March 2012. The donation brings the amount raised from local residents, businesses and foundations to $1,203,000. Thanks to a $4 million matching grant from an anonymous donor, the sum raised totals more than $2.4 million.

Harrington HealthCare at Hubbards Emergency Department is the focal point of healthcare in Webster, Dudley, Oxford, Douglas, Thompson and surrounding communities in South Central Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut. The Emergency Department in Webster sees more than 12,000 patient visits a year, but has not had a substantial overhaul since it was constructed in 1955.

Janet Malser was a lifelong Dudley resident, a Bartlett High School graduate and a member of many organizations in the area. When she passed away in 2007, she directed much of her money be used to fund a charitable trust supporting the humanities solely in the towns of Dudley, Oxford and Webster.
