Harrington HealthCare System Launches Teen Wellness Program with Dance

Southbridge, Mass., March 18, 2014 – Harrington Healthcare Systems is launching a Self Wellness Program (SWP) focused on teens and young adults at a kick-off dance 7-11 p.m., Friday, March 28, at the Old Southbridge High School, 25 Cole Avenue. The dance is open to teens from age 13 through 18 and is free.

To attend the dance, teens from 13 to 18 are being asked to complete an optional and confidential self-wellness survey. All teens who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for a prize. DJ 4eign from Jamn 94.5 will spin the music.

Harringtons Self Wellness Program is made possible by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The purpose of the Self Wellness Program is to increase access to family planning and sexual reproductive health information for teens and young adults between the ages of 13-26 in the Southbridge area.

The Harrington Self Wellness Program decided to use the MDPH grant to engage teens where teens are at by creating a multi-level marketing and communications strategy which entails using the web, newsletter, quick response codes, social media sites and other innovative strategies, all integrated, branded and managed for the sole purpose of promoting healthy self wellness practices.

The Self Wellness Program includes two outreach workers based at Harrington who engage teens at various sites both within Harrington Hospital and out in the community to make them aware of available health resources. The program also is reaching out to teens through social media and other electronic communication vehicles, all with the goal of promoting health self-wellness practices.
