Harrington Fundraising Campaign Tops $1 Million

WEBSTER, Mass., February 1, 2013 — Harrington HealthCare System has raised more than $1 million from local individuals and business in its Strengthening Our Future Campaign to rebuild the Emergency Department on Thompson Road in Webster.

Coupled with an anonymous donation that matches each dollar contributed, up to $4 million, the total raised thus far is $2,012,184.

“We are extremely heartened by the generosity of the community,” said Harrington President and CEO Edward H. Moore. “The Emergency Department at our Webster campus, Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard, is the focal point of healthcare for the community. By helping the Strengthening Our Future capital campaign, all these generous donors are helping to ensure that this region will continue to receive state-of-the-art healthcare, close to home, for many years to come.

“We will be able to break ground on this important project once we raise a total of $4 million — $2 million from businesses and organizations plus the matching funds from our very generous anonymous donor,” Moore said.

To date, 195 individuals and organizations have made pledges, and hundreds of individuals have attended fund-raising events, such as an outdoor concert on Labor Day and a Wine, Beer and Chocolate Tasting in October.

Upcoming fundraising events include the Ride to Rebuild, a bike ride for all levels of riders, a Polish Food and Music Festival, and a community-wide document shredding event brought to you by Cintas Document Management.

The Emergency Department at 340 Thompson Road in Webster handles more than 12,000 visits a year. But this vital health resource in the community has not seen a renovation or a significant overhaul since it was constructed in 1955. The rebuilding project will increase the number of beds from five to 10, increase the square footage from 3,000 square feet to 10,000 square feet, and allow Harrington to accommodate the increased patient traffic it expects in the years to come.
