Harrington in Top 10 Massachusetts Hospitals For Quality Measures

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass., August 17, 2012– Harrington Hospitals patient satisfaction scores in five key areas for the second quarter of 2012 were in the top 10 of Massachusetts hospitals as reported by Press Ganey, an independent healthcare survey company.

The high scores are the result of a Harrington-wide focus customer service as well as the dedicated attention given to patients by our front-line nursing staff, said Kathleen Davis, Vice President for Quality and Patient Safety.

Harrington scored sixth in the state for communication with nursing staff; ninth for communication about medications; fourth for hospital environment (which measures patient satisfaction about quietness and cleanliness); seventh for pain control and fourth for staff responsiveness. The categories are part of the HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers & Systems) survey that Press Ganey conducts at Harrington and other hospitals.

“We have a very dedicated nursing staff, and we have an HCAHPS Team made up of frontline nursing staff and management at Harrington that is working very hard on this endeavor,” Kathleen said. “Tom Hijeck, R.N., M.S., our Vice President of Nursing, and his team have implemented a number of new initiatives, such as morning huddles, bedside shift report and hourly rounding. These initiatives are all making a very positive difference at Harrington.”

Press Ganey surveys patients about their healthcare experience and compiles a score based on the surveys. Harringtons rankings are as compared with 35 hospitals in Massachusetts also surveyed by Press Ganey.
