WEBSTER, Mass., Nov. 13, 2009 – More than 100 local veterans from the Webster-Dudley area were guests of honor at a luncheon hosted by Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard on Thursday, Nov. 12, at Point Breeze Restaurant.
Veterans enjoyed a free meal, including coffee, baked chicken, roasted potatoes and dessert. Harringtons Nutrition Services staff prepared and transported all the food to Point Breeze, and Harrington management served the veterans during the meal.
State Senator Richard Moore attended the luncheon, as well as Harrington President Ed Moore and Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard Administrator Tom Hijeck. State Representative Paul Kujawski, who was out of state for the event, sent a cherished thank-you message to the attendees.
“We are here because of all of you, and we are so thankful to be a part of this community event,” Ed Moore said during his speech.
“Its a day to honor our veterans, celebrate their brave accomplishments and give back in gratitude,” said Blaine Schnare, Marketing Manager for Harrington HealthCare at Hubbard, who helped organize the event.
The Webster campus has hosted a Veterans Day Luncheon for the past several years in thanks to local vets who gave their time and honor defending the country. What started as a small gathering in the Hubbard cafeteria has blossomed into a packed banquet room at Point Breeze.
“The event was simply too popular to keep on our campus, we couldnt fit everyone!” Schnare said. “We wanted to include as many people as possible, so we turned to Point Breeze a couple years ago. They have been wonderful, setting up their dining area beautifully and doing everything they can to help accommodate.”
State Senator Moore also gave a few words of thanks, and discussed recent moves in the State House to protect benefits of Massachusetts veterans and service members.
The legislation, An Act to Provide Benefits for Veterans and Service members, makes improvements in numerous areas, including voting rights, access to veterans services, employment and benefits.
