Breast Self-Exam

Adult women of all ages are encouraged to perform breast self-exams at least once a month.

While mammograms can help to detect cancer before you can feel a lump, breast self-exams help you to be familiar with how your breasts look and feel so you can alert your health care professional there are any changes.

You can do a breast self-exam in the shower, in front of a mirror, or lying down.

Our Cancer Center is in partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS). The ACS is here to help you and your family cope with your cancer diagnosis. Together, we can help you and your family manage the emotional and practical concerns associated with cancer with materials and programs listed below:

Look Good…Feel Better: A free program that teaches beauty techniques to women cancer patients to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment

We understand how overwhelming a diagnosis of breast disease can be. At Harrington, our goal is to surround your care with coordination and convenience, while offering compassion and understanding each step of the way.

Our comprehensive breast navigation program is designed to treat each individual patient in their own journey.

Our center includes medical specialists from a variety of disciplines, such as medical and radiation oncology, general surgery, breast surgery, plastic/reconstructive surgery, pathology, mammography, social work and nursing.

The American College of Radiology continues to recommend that women get yearly mammograms starting at age 40.

Mammograms can help detect cancer early when treatments are more likely to be successful.

Research has found mammograms to correctly identify about 84 percent of women who truly have breast cancer.

Diagnostic Testing

At Harrington, we offer a variety of diagnostic testing, including breast biopsies. Unlike other healthcare facilities, we have stand-up imaging machines to perform the procedure. This is less intrusive for the patient and creates a more calming environment.
