Bone Densitometry

Bone densitometry is a way of assessing one’s risk for fracture based on the density of the bones. This is very quick and easy exam that can help the physician tract and treat, if necessary, bone thickness in order to prevent fractures, which can certainly affect ones living style and independence.

These are performed at our Southbridge, Charlton and Webster campus locations using dual X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) which is the recommended method by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry for measuring bone density. The technologists performing the exams have been certified by the Society and all exams are interpreted by the radiologist at BIDMC.
