October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. Yet thanks to advances in research and medicine,  millions of women are surviving the disease.

The Cancer Center at Harrington is doing its part to provide our patients with excellent clinical care by helping them understand their treatment options and offering mental, emotional and social support.

We have a comprehensive Breast Center with dedicated patient navigator so you have someone on your side, following each appointment and test result — from initial diagnosis to  recovery.

Early Detection

One of the most important things a woman or man can do to prevent breast cancer is schedule their annual mammogram. We offer digital mammography at our Southbridge, Webster and Charlton campuses. 3-D Mammography is coming soon to Southbridge!

Our technicians are skilled in keeping our patients comfortable and lower any anxiety they may have going into the procedure. Many women find it to less difficult than they expected.

But that’s not all – we offer Genetic Counseling to anyone who might be more at-risk for breast cancer. Our licensed genetics counselor can review family history, explain hereditary risks, and even discuss treatment options and their potential outcomes.

Diagnostic Testing

We also offer a variety of diagnostic testing, including breast biopsies. Unlike other healthcare facilities, we have stand-up imaging machines to perform the procedure. This is less intrusive for the patient and creates a more calming environment.

Our Cancer Center staff creates a tailored care plan just for you. From nutrition guidelines to advanced wound care following your treatment, we offer clinical specialists every step of the way.

Surgical Treatment for Cancer

Dr. Colette Whitby is the lead breast surgeon at Harrington and she performs a variety of general and reconstructive surgeries on male and female patients.
