Run for Life, Ride for Health Fund Raiser Offers 5K, Bike Ride

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. – July 28, 2014 – Harrington HealthCare System will hold a “Run for Life, Ride for Health” fund raiser on Sunday, August 17.

The event features a 5K walk/run through downtown Southbridge or a bike ride – 30 and 60 mile courses are available that tour rural parts of northeastern Connecticut. Proceeds will benefit the Harrington HealthCare System Annual Fund and The Cancer Center at Harrington.

Online registration is now open at http://harrington.kintera.org/runandride.

The event is a spin-off from a bike ride fund raiser held last summer for the Webster Emergency Department Capital Campaign, which raised more than $70,000.

“We wanted to keep the enthusiasm going for Harrington. This year weve expanded the event to include walkers and runners, and were giving avid and beginner cyclists two great routes through Northeastern Connecticut.” said Edward Moore, President and CEO of Harrington HealthCare. “We want to see a great turnout – wed love to reach our fund raising goal of $100,000.”

Both events kick off at the 79 Sayles Street parking lot, adjacent to the main hospital campus. All participants will enjoy a free barbeque after the event, as well as the opportunity to take their chances at raffles or a 50/50.

Several local businesses have stepped forward to support Harrington and the community. Event sponsors include Karl Storz, Country Bank, Commerce Bank, Elco Products, Big Bunny Supermarket, Klems, Southbridge Savings Bank, Dave Wilbur Race Systems, Southbridge Indoor Cycling, Southbridge Bicycles, Yankee Shopper, HealthSource of Auburn and LB Graphics.

The registration fee for 5K participants is $20; Bikers are $30. All participants are asked to raise a suggested minimum by having family, friends and business partners support their efforts. Fund raising details and information can be found online at http://harrington.kintera.org/runandride. Teams are welcome and encouraged.
